I was at the store today shopping for outside Christmas lights
When a lady checking out in front of the line I could tell her money was a little tight
She had her cart with a few toys and cheer she needed for Christmas day
With a toddler there by the hand and a baby on the way
She was trying to pay part by cash and the rest on a debit card
But when the cashier said declined I could tell it was heart breaking and hard
The people in front of me in line were making comments to move out of the way
But she just looked at the crowd shaking her head not knowing what to say
She left the cart and with toddler in hand walked slowly out the door
And for me that image has been in my mind ever since I left the store
For I have before been in her place and know how she must have felt
And I’m so ashamed I didn’t step up, because for her I could have helped
Most of us throughout our life go through times that maybe are financially hard
So I promise the next time I’m in line and happens I will open up my wallet and heart
