Statues Fall and Buildings They do Burn

As we gaze at the news or listen while driving in our car

The turmoil and despair seem to be both near and far

Crime in some cities seem to be running rampant and out of control

Criminals destroy innocent lives as if possessed by an evil soul

They are not happy about the what their lives have now become

And look to blame society and history along with everyone

Now I’m the first to acknowledge history to some has not been fair

But that’s no reason to try to spread terror and fear to others everywhere

No one living in this great country of ours, either young or old today

Is responsible for the actions of past generations no matter what you say

So to heal the wounds of times gone by for which we all do surely yearn

Will be harder to take place as long as statues fall and buildings they do burn

If My Loved One passed Away

I was leisurely driving slowly down a beautiful country road

When I came upon a fork and not real sure which way to go

I looked at my passenger as she calmly pointed me the way

With her usual smile and gesture didn’t need anything to say

You see we have been together for the biggest part of our life

First we met and were lovers then became a husband and wife

This got me to thinking about how to each we tend to grow

And after a lifetime together how one day one of us must go

What in life will be different when your loved one passes away

All of sudden there will not a be passenger smiling and pointing the way

The simple conversations about things that really don’t mean a whole lot

Or going with them to buy new plants for the yard or again maybe not

Yes it is the simple things we do together I would miss most I must say

IF the good Lord called her today and My Loved One Passed Away

  Highway 741

If we all would drive the back roads of this great land in which we live

And slow down and take in the sites and beauty they all have to give

We all would find the turmoil that we are battered with from the news

Simply seems to not exist in small towns where people have wholesome views

As I drove the country road through farm land from Strasburg to the town of Gap

I couldn’t help but think how happy we all would be if we traveled without a map

I was heading south from the north to my home in the little town in which I live

The only think that I really needed was the guidance the sun had to give

The sun was setting in the west so as I drove, I just kept it to my right

Instead of driving the interstate with maps I take the time to see the sites

Little known places like the Dutch Wonderland or town of Bird in Hand

Until you take the time to slow down and see these you will never understand

So get in the car turn the radio off and stay on the two lane roads just for fun

And if you are in Pennsylvania be sure to take the drive on beautiful Highway 471

 Overlook at Tallulah Gorge

I had something sad and tragic happen today on a road trip with my bride

We stopped at our favorite little store on a lonely little mountain roadside

This little store has been a fixture for thousands that have been stopping there for years

Remembering sitting in the rocking chair with moon pie and RC brings back such happy tears

We have always stopped at this special  hidden place in Georgia for over 40 years of our life

Why we have been making this sacred  stop with our daughter way more than once or twice

When we made our special daughter and daddy trip home for her to become a bride

The first thing that she asked to do was to stop at the gorge with me there by her side

Tragically this piece of history, like so many others, will now just fade away

Because the owner of the land has told them that the store must move away

It is more than just shutting the door on this little run down roadside country store

It’s closing the door on memories created that will last our children for evermore

I know that progress is something that cannot be slowed and ahead we must forge

But it doesn’t make any easier to watch the dying of the Overlook at Tallulah Gorge

Celebrate Your Mom

The day is now upon us to celebrate our mothers once again

For without these beautiful creatures’ life would never even begin

Mothers are the wonderful gifts from God that give new life each day

They are the ones that nurture and guide us each until we learn our way

Some mothers they gave us life, while others answered a needed call

Some mothers are ours naturally and to others are not natural at all

Our mothers whether through natural birth or need, we love with all our heart

And the strong love between a mother and child should never ever fall apart

There are times in life when Mothers and children seem to strongly disagree

But when I look back upon those times in my life I’m glad Mom felt different than me

My Mom was strong and had a firm stance on things both right and wrong

But she taught us kids to be honest, good and in life you must be strong

So as you celebrate your Mom today remember the things that she did good

For her main purpose in this world is to teach you to live life as you should

Little Memories

I was talking with the kids today about their baby that’s on the way
We were talking about what they can expect about their future days
It brought back memories of when our daughter was young and still at home
The little things like watching her Momma brush her hair with the silver comb
How she would squirm and fuss when on a tangle the comb would get caught
She would run to me and hide from Momma and the mean ole comb she thought
The nights when we would all just lie in bed and she would talk about her day
Telling us in detail about what she did and what her friends all had to say
It was about watching her at the games out there cheering with her friends
Cheer leading the home town football team on hopefully to another win
It’s about all of the little things of her growing up that no money can afford
Like the bright sunny Sunday at the lake when she gave her life to the Lord
No monetary value can be placed on little memories that occurred each day
As they always did and continue still today even after her Mom and I gave her away

The City Sits Idle

The streets are now vacant with bright yellow taxis nowhere in site
Rockefeller Center rink has no tourists and sits lonely and quiet
Windows at Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s beginning to show dis-repair
There is a cold dark sadness in this once vibrant city’s cool morning air
In the distance a lonely lady with her cart walks past St. Patrick’s on 5th
It now seems the city that never sleeps is just a lost fairy tale or myth
As I see the devastation of this city that’s energy is second to none
I pray that a day very soon it will return to the center of commerce and fun
Time Square it sits quiet and Radio City’s Rockettes they can’t be found
The sites that stand for freedom refuse to even let people come around
It’s all caused by a silent enemy that’s not only taking away innocent lives
It’s taking away the future, lives and dreams of millions of husbands and wives
You see, their businesses, hard work and dreams have been all stripped away
As New York City the symbol of freedom and commerce continues to sit idle today

    Build Our Country Back

The look in the eyes of people walking slowly down the street

The look on the face of many wondering how long they can eat

Without a job and no money coming in how will we all survive

Is the topic of discussion between a desperate husband and his wife

The government felt wise to shut down the lives of so very many

Forcing businesses to close and leaving people without even a penny

This virus is here now and in the future another will surely come

Bringing with it sickness to many and even bring death to someone

Now the experts are saying we should never again hug or even shake hands

But for me to have to live a life that way I’m afraid I would not be able to stand

Leaders need to let everyone open their businesses and put our country back on track

And let the American spirit and ingenuity start fighting to build our country back

Someone To Blame

The bombs fell that peaceful morning on the island paradise
And America was facing a new enemy and war much to our surprise
The planes controlled by maddened terrorists came violently from the sky
And America was facing disaster within happening right before our eyes
Now we are at war again but this time not from human foe
But from a terrible virus running rampant as it continues to grow
In times of trouble in the past together Americans we would band
But it seems to me this time is different which I can’t understand
It seems some people are willing to watch our country be destroyed
Having no concern for the millions of people out there unemployed
They fight in congress and in the press trying to find someone to blame
Instead of acting like adults and stop playing their childish political game
No one even the President has all the answers and this too they could not foresee
So let’s focus on a solution and successes and make things better for you and me

They Face the Fear

She grabs her bag and walks out the door in scrubs and clip in her hair

Not knowing what she faces at the hospital when she arrives there

I see in her eyes a new concern and a certain amount of fear

For years when she left for work it was smiles and fear was not near

This is the new life of our nurses and doctors now fighting each day

They know they have a job to do and with family they can’t stay

Each day they leave their own life behind and do as they’re trained

As they set out to suit up and do what is needed to defeat this viral strain

Not everyone they treat will make it home and back to their family and life

But warriors on the front line hopefully will return home to husband or wife

So pray for my wife and all of the others that to the sickly they tirelessly tend

And pray this terrible episode of our lives will soon be over and come to an end

How You Choose to Live

It’s not about life, it’s about how you choose to live

It’s about family, friends and the love you choose to give

You can go through your life worrying about things that you see

Or choose to let things just fly by and be happy as you can be

Sometimes we get caught up in our life’s numerous demands

And it’s like there is no way to put more in our full hands

So we tend to take our frustration out on others that are around

When we should just take a deep breath, step back and settle down

Now while we all have these demands and issues in life every day

How you choose to handle them is the decision for you to weigh

Cancer Checkup Day

A cancer survivor just got great news and chose to share online
I feel a great relief and joy when this happens each and every time

People that have not fought the fight will never quite understand
How the fight against this terrible foe seems to follow you till life’s end

You finish the painful treatments that were extremely hard to endure
Now things in everyday life have become so precious that’s for sure

You dread the time when you have to walk again through the doctor’s door
And lie awake the night before praying for good news if only just once more

I’ve fought this battle in my mind over and over for a long fifteen years
But even today when my checkup is clear I still can’t stop the joyous tears

Then I thank God for giving me the chance to enjoy life just one more day
And knowing that I’m now clear and good to go for six more months anyway

Rekindle the Love

Unfortunately, some will awaken today with turmoil in their life
Terrible turmoil caused by friction between a husband and a wife
Things that were said in anger that ate away a partner’s loving heart
Things you thought could never be said when this marriage it did start
But over time together sometimes love just seems to begin to die
But instead of calling it quits just take time and ask yourself why
We all have times in our marriage when things seem to go astray
We have different opinions on issues and each of us want our own way
Nobody promised marriage is easy or some luscious pie in the sky
But through a marriage’s trails and tribulations a love it will fortify
So look back who you fell in love with on the day you said I do
And remember the love on that day that existed between them and you
So look your loved one in the eyes and seek the passion that seems lost
For to rekindle the lost love and passion once had is worth all imaginable cost

Thick Morning Fog

As I walked out the door today at the rise of the dawn
It was impossible to see the beautiful lake out beyond
The fog was so thick you could not see 3 feet ahead
Kind of like the days in our life that we seem to dread
Some days we awake and have a clear few of our path
While other days just seem like we are receiving God’s wrath
Sometimes it’s like when thick winter fog covers the ground
You are searching for answers to problems that never are found
You try but your vision’s so cloudy from the thick dew in the air
And you look around for help but you can’t see anyone there
But like life the fog will lift and disappear as the sun begins to rise
And you will have clear skies and sunshine in front of your eyes
So the next time you wake up feeling there is just to much to bear
The morning fog will soon lift and leave blue skies everywhere

Bright Blue Morning Sky

As I set out this morning driving and gazed at the road ahead
What I was admiring made me forget where the highway led
It was something that was marvelous and I was fortunate to see
An unusual blue sky that was cloudless and beautiful beyond belief
I found myself captivated and enchanted at such a beautiful site
An couldn’t help but be thankful for a sky so blue and so bright
As I gazed I started thinking about all of life’s true fulfilling gifts
Some we take for granted like viewing water fall over a mountain cliff
As we go through life we all see things of beauty each and every day
But sadly in our busy world we just pass them as we go our way
So just try to slow down a little and view the world as it goes by
And you too might get to see a BRIGHT BLUE MORNING SKY

Things Work Out

Some of us will awake again today with turmoil within our lives
Maybe caused by problems between husbands and their wives
The problems may be from financial issues that seem to be hitting hard
Or maybe from something as insignificant as grass dying in the yard
We all seem to deal with life’s problems in a very different way
But one thing that is for sure is that we have problems everyday
As we go throughout our lives there are good times and the bad
So teach yourself to focus on the good things in life instead of sad
Worrying about life’s problems that we can’t control is not what I recommend
I’ve learned when I just live life for today things seem to work out in the end

This Past Year

Another year has now come and gone and never will it return

We’re hopefully a little wiser today by the things this year we learned

As in all past years in our life we have memories of this year too

Hopefully some memories we will cherish and remember our life through

Through this year we all have experienced our good days and our bad

We will have memories of the times this year both good times and the sad

This morning as I sit here on the porch alone enjoying this morning rain

I can’t help but to think of the memories this year that I was so lucky to gain

Sometimes is hard to put into perspective and view our life in positive ways

But just take a moment and reflect on your life especially the last 365 days

If you were too sit down with a calendar and go through this past year day by day

I’m sure you will find great days and memories outweigh the bad in a measurable way

Skills You Need

We awaken into this world with nothing on our back

Dependent on our parents to provide everything we lack

As we grow rapidly up through our childhood days

We have everything provided for us in many different ways

We don’t have to worry about how we will be clothed or how we’re fed

All we have worry about is having fun and doing what our parents said

Then one day we face new challenges that are foreign and unforeseen

We have now become an adult and are out to chase our own dreams

We find this road as adults can be bumpy and sometimes even rough

So if we want to reach our goals we have to fight hard and be tough

So remember your parent’s job in the plan is not to be your best friend

But to instill in you the skills you need to be successful in the end

Merry Christmas

Christmas time is approaching fast and soon to be upon me once again

Time to go shopping for needless gifts for people I see every now and then

I wonder through the stores and online seeking for something unique

I drive myself crazy deciding on something they may want to keep

So I buy these folks something they don’t want and will never use again

But what the hell I’m off the hook and now that problem belongs to them

But I love to get up Christmas morning so happy the day has finally arrived

And we will gather around the Christmas tree lit up with Christmas lights

There is nothing in the world so pleasing to me as this morning once a year

Just having my family all here with me laughing and full of Christmas cheer

The true meaning of Christmas soon takes over and again I always see the light

That the reason for the season is to celebrate birth of Jesus on that glorious night

What The Future Will Bring

“I wonder what the future will bring” is something we have all asked

It may have been yesterday last year or at another time in our past

There is only one thing in our life that can provide the answer to this

That is you and I alone with personal drive and true desire to persist

We all create our own future both the good times and the bad

We also create how we approach our life either happy or maybe sad

Life is full of challenges for us that we will face each and every day

The choice of what the future will bring depends on how you choose to play

So the next time that you sit and ponder just what your future will bring

Remember only you can in your mind decide whether to be a pauper or a king
