Little Buddy and Me

He lays there on the couch with me just as close as he can get

Then the door bell rings and he is off to the door just like a flying jet

Back to his perch where he watches squirrels play through the glass back door

His little cloudy eyes are gazing around but don’t see that well anymore

His little teeth have never been quite straight as they should be

The missing hair that comes and goes is such a mystery to me

During days of his younger life he was our daughter’s precious pet

He would play in dress up clothes and sleep with her from the day they first met

Our daughter is now all grown up and from our home had to move away

So our little buddy is content with his mom and I with him everyday

He has a little separation issue that when he can’t see you he begins to cry

But when you step back in the room he looks at you and lets out a loving sigh

He can no longer jump up on the bed or couch and is getting older I can see

But he still loves his Sunday Dairy Queen ride with Mom, Little Buddy and Me

Respect for Each Other

You never seem to see a man anymore get up and offer a lady his chair

Or remove their hat inside it’s like they are afraid to show their hair

It seems people will no longer take time to hold open a door

And it is unusual to even hear someone say thank you anymore

People just don’t seem to care about showing each other respect

Some of you may even take offense at me talking so direct

Today a woman at the store just let the door shut in my face

She was heading for a fountain drink like she was running a race

Whether it is showing a little courtesy in public or while driving your car

You may find out you like being courteous and it’s more rewarding by far

If people out there treated everyone like they were a sister or brother

It would be such a better world full of courtesy and respect for each other

Grow Old With Me

When I first saw you walking down by the lake

I knew in an instant my heart was yours to take

It was only a short time before our lives became one

We have since spent our years through hard times and fun

Now with us both the years might be starting to show

We don’t run so fast anymore and get up a little slow

We have raised our family and she is now on her own

So we are here in this two story house you and I all alone

As we are now entering into the next chapter of our life

We will begin to rely more on each other as husband and wife

We still have a lot of years left to have fun and enjoy what we do

Whether it be doing some traveling or just sitting on the porch with you

The coming years will surely slow us down to a certain degree

But I hope through it all you will be there to grow old with me

From My World To Yours,

Bob Baker

Do You Really Know

Have you ever wondered about all the things that we hear and see

Just how much of the information is true that’s told to you and me

We hear stories from news, advertising and even from our friends

Then there is the gossip that goes flying around every now and then

A boy when dating will make up a crazy excuse to tell his girlfriend

She turns around with something just as crazy that she tells to him

The government only tells you and I just what they want us to know

Husbands and wives cheating on each other tell lies that continue to grow

Then there are all of the children that don’t tell their parents the truth

These childhood lies are told by kids though out teen years and youth

If we only knew everything was the truth it would be something to bestow

But since we don’t just ask yourself – True or Not- do you really know

Calm After The Storm

The tensions rise rapidly on the days leading up to the fierce storm

People rushing all the stores for food and gas like bees in a swarm

With no one knowing for sure just where the fierce storm would land

The only thing for sure is everyone’s hope was this killer would disband

Our wishes were not honored and the storm’s damage was severe and real

Power and food were non existent therefore you had to hunt hard for a meal

Generators were making electricity at homes throughout the state

But as everyone found out without gasoline electricity it could not make

People spent their days seeking gas and food for their family to eat

And at night sleeping as best they could in the sweltering Florida heat

One group of heroes were the linemen working tirelessly nonstop day and night

Bless God for Law Enforcement risking life while keeping things out there right

While we all saw a few bad apples taking advantage of others hard times

Their day will come when they have to answer severely for their life of crimes

So now that things are getting back to everyday life and things back to the norm

We can all sit back and grab a cold beer and enjoy the calm after the storm

Hurricane Weatherman

The big blow is now on the radar and heading our way

TV news only talking hurricane stuff and nothing more today

There is always one way to tell how bad things out there really are

And it is not determined by studying the moon the sun or stars

The only sure way to tell how bad the weather is to become

Is by the stage of the shirt tie and suit worn on TV by some

You can tell how bad things are getting by the weatherman’s clothes

As weather gets bad why their wardrobe changes nobody knows

It all starts slow as you see them all removing their suit coat

Then as things begin to get worse they loosen their tie from their throat

The next step of the weatherman shirt plan is when things really get bad

Their sleeves are rolled up and wrinkled and they look fighting mad

You don’t have to even hear them saying when to execute your storm plan

You just need to check time to time on the shirt status of the hurricane weatherman

We Will All Come Together

One thing that make Americans different from all of the others

Is when tragedy hits we are there to help our sisters and brothers

You notice on the news there are no stories of fear and hate

But of others helping others which is a true American trait

We all put down our battle swords of difference and cruel words

And temporarily forget about removing statues and other things absurd

People helping people no matter their color, beliefs or if it’s day or night

The one thing that a tragedy does is puts what’s really important back into light

So as some of us will and do suffer throughout these terrible times

We all can count on the promise that American spirit will always shine

While we all hunker down to ride out this horrible treacherous weather

We can all rest assured that with the storm we will all come together

Eye of The Storm

As I sit here watching the weather on TV today

Everything is focused on Hurricane Irma coming our way

It looks pretty grim for some of our Florida friends

But we will defiantly know more when the big blow begins

There will be wind blowing like hell along with buckets of rain

The planes will quit flying as well as the running of trains

Stores have no food or water and gas has become short

The cruise ships are told to unload and get out of port

The highways are full of families and their pets

Far away from this storm they are trying to get

As the storm gets closer emotions and tempers may flair

To a safe place from this storm people are trying to get there

Just try to be patient and you will end up dry and warm

As you will find a safe place out of the eye of the storm

This Old House Was Spared

As I drove through my old neighborhood just the other day

I slowed to a stop in the road and couldn’t seem to look away

What I was looking at was more than just shingles paint and wood

It was memories of my family and these memories there are good

This was the house where I lived throughout my youthful years

It was a place of peace and comfort and where I even shed a few tears

We would run and play with friends that lived around our red clay street

And at night climb into bed with our windows open while we went to sleep

Supper time we all ate at the kitchen table and talked about our day

Momma took turns to listen to what each of us had to say

We all did our part with dishes and cleaning up from supper time

Not helping with the dishes in our house to Momma was a crime

We all had our chores to do and school was a major responsibility

Our Momma insisted that everything be done to your best ability

I sat there remembering the good times this old house has shared

I’m thankful that though years and growth this old house was spared

Good Old Days

Forty Five years have just come and gone it seems like way to fast

It seems like only yesterday that we were laughing and cutting up in class

Some of us now no longer work and are just living our life as planned

While others have been fighting problems more than most of us could stand

Some of us have fought illness and watched loved ones not make it through

While others spent their time working out in the gym maybe even took Kung Fu

Some of us like to camp and enjoy life in the great outdoors

While others like to spend their time at the mall shopping in the stores

I loved to see the smiles on faces that through life have never died

We talked about stupid things we did and I laughed until I cried

It seems we have all gone on with our lives and drifted different ways

But when we got together it still seemed like the GOOD OLD DAYS

Heaven Will Never Be Quite The Same

A dear friend of mine departed from this world the other day

A terrible loss to his family and friends he made along the way

We had times that I’ll always remember as long as I shall live

Always there to lend a hand or to offer anything he could give

He fought a long hard battle that no one should have to endure

But he was always cheerful even knowing that the end was near for sure

His friends will move on in life and his family will have to move on too

The only thing is that our lives will never be quite the same without you

So as we all know and are glad you will no longer be suffering or in pain

We have comfort of knowing that with you heaven will never be quite the same

GOD BLESS MY FRIEND

Worst Days of My Life

Every day when I wake from a good nights sleep

A new day begins with new memories I’ll keep

There are days in my life some are fun and some are great

And then there are the days I live that we all have to hate

I looked back at my life and my worst days and there were four

These are the days that as long as I live in my mind I will store

We all have these days that we wished never were there

But we will all have memories of these days we shall bear

But with all of the great times I’ve had with my family, daughter and wife

I would never appreciate the best days if not for the worst days of my life

This Morning

As I drink my coffee and wait for the sun to rise on this new day

And quietly read through the news seeing what they have to say

It’s really very dishearting there is nothing at all good to read

Just bickering about politics and statues nothing we really need

It seems like with things in the world in such a screwed up mess

The news could find something worthwhile in research to address

There is turmoil in foreign countries and starvation in other lands

Threats of nuclear war upon us just riding in a lunatic’s hands

Taxes are high and climbing to the point of no return

But no one cares to discuss this as if it’s of no concern

But the things that drive a fit of anger in the unstable and insecure

You can bet will be on the front page of the news you can rest assured

So if you want to have a nice day, be in a good mood and not be so depressed

Just turn off the news and crank up the music this morning as you get dressed

You Make The Choice

Have you ever noticed how some people are always sad

While others it seems are always laughing and glad

Some people are very happy at a given time of day

And then in an instant their happiness just fades away

I’ve seen people that spend their day all down in the dumps

While others just sit back and laugh at life’s little bumps

Happiness and sadness are both easy to spread and share

So why not choose to spread happiness to others out there

Life is not always easy and sometimes things are hard

Some things come unexpected and catch us off guard

But if we take things in stride and let chips fall where they may

We always seem to make it through to the next day

It is up to you to follow the path of our own inner voice

And decide – HAPPY OR SAD – YOU MAKE THE CHOICE

Meet Their Fate

What gets into people that drive them to riot out in the street

I’ll never understand how people find it right to loot, steal and cheat

They come out of the darkness wearing masks to hide their face

Hurting the innocent and destroying property while Police are giving chase

If you are proud of what you stand for then why hide your face in shame

If you believe in what you fight for you should want to share your name

These people that are rioting are no more than worthless low life thugs

Stealing honest people’s property so they can buy more guns and drugs

The sad thing is there are people who blame this behavior on you and me

They say we are all racist and this behavior is because we treat them mean

I think that the reason is not with you and me but they are just people full of hate

And hopefully on a dark street rioting a fed up citizen will help them meet their fate

Little Towns Die

I love to drive the back roads throughout this land

But there is one thing I notice time and time again

Every small town is full of the stores that are closed

There are no longer small stores to buy shoes and clothes

The bicycle shop and lunch counter are no longer there

Just empty buildings with broken glass everywhere

The new four lane highway was built around this small town

Then after this happened these small stores were left to drown

Kids no longer ride bikes Saturday downtown to the show

They have no reason to even go to town anymore you know

Everything is bought online or out at the new big box store

Walking on the towns crowded streets will happen no more

As I slowly drove around this deserted little town I wanted to cry

Because so much is lost when we let these little towns die

Mabry Mill

The old cedar shingles are weathered from storms

The old wood lap siding is all buckled and worn

The water wheel is still turning from water upstream

The trees and grass at the mill are so lush and so green

As I sit here beside this Virginia old country road

And think back through times that were so long ago

How hard these people worked and the struggles and strife

All they ever wanted was to provide their children a better life

I’m sure as they worked all day grinding the grain

The thought of erasing history never entered their brain

Monuments of this Appalachian life surely needs to be preserved

Like all other monuments of our history that our children deserve

If we destroy all things that reflect our past at the whim of one’s will

Our children will never enjoy a moment like this sitting at Mabry Mill

Subway Train

They come in suits, lab coats and jeans

Some wearing hardhats, jewelry and rings

Little old ladies wearing sweaters because they are cold

I even saw a human statue and he was painted all gold

These are the people that get up each day

And walk from their home and take the subway

New York City life is different than most people will know

You don’t have a car so you take the train wherever you go

People carry bikes and bags up three flights of stairs

I’ve even seen a lady on the train carrying table and chairs

Your life must revolve around the schedule of the train

And you hurry to the subway through heat snow and rain

Trying to decide if it’s the Q , N or R train just drives me insane

Don’t think I will ever be smart enough to ride the right subway train

Surely Fade Away

We all come into this world needing help with every need

The things in life are learned by all but at a different speed

As we go through our youth it seems like our life will never end

But some will die young and why this is so is hard to comprehend

Some of us will leave this world from violence or an act of war

While others will just fade away to sleep and wake nevermore

There are those of us that will have to watch while our children die

For others they will watch their Mom and Dad fade and gently cry

The thought of death is something from which we all seem to hide

But the reality is that we will all be there and this can not be denied

So as you go through life be sure to love your family each and everyday

Because it is certain that one day the lives of us all will surely fade away

The Smile

Some people seem to find this little thing so very hard to do

While others it just comes naturally whenever they look at you

Some people wake in the morning with this all over their face

There are others that wake like they are mad at the whole human race

I had a man tell one time it is much easier to be happy than to be sad

Maybe that’s why when I wake up I’m always whistling and I am glad

I try my best to laugh a lot and just take life as it comes

Because sometimes we get the cake and sometimes just the crumbs

A person’s true beauty doesn’t come from their looks or their fashion style

But it comes from them sharing a lot of laughter and a radiant beautiful smile
